A Living Heritage of Prayer

Rediscovering the spiritual treasures of the Catholic Church.

The prayers of generations past still have a place in the hearts of Catholics today.

Why “From Age to Age”?

Our name comes from an earlier English translation of Eucharistic Prayer III of the Catholic Mass: “From age to age you gather a people to yourself…” These words express the enduring unity of God's people across generations.

The Church is more than a community living at one moment in history. United in Christ, we belong to the one Communion of Saints: the faithful on earth and those who have gone before us in Christ. Their prayers and devotions are part of the spiritual inheritance we share today.

From Age to Age seeks to make those traditions accessible once again—not merely as records of the past, but as living expressions of the faith that binds Catholics across centuries.

One Church. One Communion. From Age to Age.

Prayer passed from age to age

The Catholic Church has inherited a remarkable treasury of prayer. Across centuries, Catholics have turned to chaplets, litanies, novenas, meditations, and other devotions to draw closer to Jesus Christ, seek the intercession of the saints, and persevere in faith.

Some of these devotions remain widely practised. Others, once cherished, have become unfamiliar to many Catholics. From Age to Age exists to help bring these treasures back into everyday Catholic prayer—not as museum pieces, but as living expressions of faith.

Forgotten does not mean forbidden

We use lost devotions to describe authentic historical Catholic practices that are less commonly encountered today. They may have faded from familiar use through changes in language, local custom, the publication of prayer books, or simply the passage of time.

“Lost” does not mean that the Church has rejected these prayers. Nor does older automatically mean better. Our purpose is to recover worthwhile traditions while respecting the Church’s living faith, its liturgy, and its teaching authority.

Ancient words, an accessible way to pray

Historical Catholic devotions

We focus on prayers with documented roots in Catholic tradition, especially those that have slipped from common awareness.

Guided prayer experiences

Interactive, step-by-step devotions pair the prayers with sacred artwork and progress indicators to help you pray attentively.

Context for every devotion

Each historical devotion includes its background, associated traditions, suitable intentions, and clear instructions.

Always free to pray

Every guided prayer experience is free to use. No subscription or donation is required to pray.

Rooted in the faith of the Church

From Age to Age is an explicitly Roman Catholic project. We aim to present devotional prayer in harmony with the Church’s teaching and to encourage, never replace, participation in the Mass, the sacraments, and the life of the Church.

The website is independently created and is not an official publication of any parish, diocese, religious community, or Vatican office.

Care for the sources—and for the claims

We seek historical editions, reputable Catholic sources, and Church documents when identifying and presenting devotions. Where a translation is provided, we aim to distinguish it from the historical original. If an attribution is uncertain, we say so rather than presenting tradition as established fact.

Some devotions circulate with promises, indulgence claims, or accounts of private revelation. We distinguish Church teaching from traditional claims and from specific ecclesiastical approvals. We do not suggest that prayer mechanically guarantees a particular result, or that historical indulgence provisions necessarily remain in force today.

Historical material and interactive presentation are offered as an aid to Catholic prayer, not a substitute for a priest or competent pastoral guidance.

A quiet work of preservation

This independent project grew from a desire to preserve and share the Church’s devotional inheritance. It is intended for Catholics discovering a traditional prayer for the first time, for those returning after many years, and for anyone seeking to deepen an existing life of prayer.

The focus is on the devotions and the faith they express—not on the person behind the website. Voluntary support helps sustain the work, but the prayers themselves will remain free.

Begin with a prayer

You need not know where to start. Explore a historical devotion, revisit a familiar prayer, or let our intention guide suggest a place to begin.
